In the time since the new year began I made a conscious choice not to give myself any resolutions (over it/eye roll).  I didn’t want to wrap myself in unrealistic expectations or just start another new year with ways I can change or do things. It’s a recipe for "not good enough." This year I decided everything is enough as is. I really tried to start the year off listening to what I truly needed. What I needed was to start the year off with what is...me, myself, and I exactly as I am right now.

It was freeing and a little weird at first because I like dreaming of the future and fantasizing about what could be. As I kicked into the new year, something wonderful happened: I began a routine around self-nurturing. Now, two months in, I finally feel like I am on to something wonderful.

Sometimes it’s good to pause, to focus on the things that feel beneficial to your well being. I began to do things that made me feel nourished and replenished in a way that has nothing do with me drinking green juice for five days. I started to meditate for five minutes every morning, followed with power posing for two. After reading Amy Cuddy’s book Presence (her amazing Ted talk on Presence here), I decided that I could take two minutes out of my day to stand like super woman.

Because of this simple, every day routine, I feel more in my body, more loving toward myself, clear minded, powerful, and in fact, more feminine. I find myself calling on that feminine energy more and wanting to express that. Maybe that’s why I dressed Jil in the mother shirt in Mother Nature and flushed her cheeks and lips in pink. We all need that nurturing motherly energy, our femininity, that expression of self. When we take the time, what we need to access is powerful beyond belief. I utterly love it.

Mother, make me

Make me a bird of prey

So I can rise above this, let it fall away

Mother, make me

Make me a song so sweet

Heaven trembles, fallen at our feet
